ECC RAM is a special type of RAM used for servers. ECC stands for Error-Correcting Code, which is an abbreviation of English words.
The reason why memories with ECC support are mainly used in servers and workstations is to correct errors that occur in the communication between memory and the processor and other hardware components. Technically, bit errors that occur during communication between memory and the processor or other hardware components are detected and prevented from recurring through ECC support. Thus, the system operates more efficiently. Memories with ECC support are especially used in servers and workstations.
Use of ECC RAM in PCs
ECC RAM is generally not suitable for personal computers. The motherboards of our personal systems generally do not support ECC RAM. However, there are some motherboard models that do support them.
