Since the dates when they were first introduced until now, different types of computers have begun to appear depending on the purpose of use. Currently, new categories of computers are still being formed.
For example, in recent years, with the development of technology, supercomputers have emerged that are used only for scientific modeling and realistic rendering.
We have briefly analyzed all types of computers for you. Our list is below.
Personal Computer – PC
Refers to computers suitable for personal use. Currently, there are two types of personal computers. One is IBM compatible, and the other is Mac compatible. Although Mac computers are actually PCs, today personal computers running the Windows operating system are called PCs. Personal computers can be found in 4 different structures.
Desktop Computers
These are computers suitable for a fixed console or desk. They cannot be moved easily. Due to their large size and weight, they are less affected by environmental factors. They consume a lot of energy and have a lower cost. The case, keyboard, mouse, and screen are separate.
Laptop – Notebook
All hardware components are in a single case. They consume less energy compared to desktop computers but are more sensitive. Click here to sell second-hand computers.
PDA Computer
It is a smaller, pocket-sized computer that uses flash memory instead of a hard disk. It is mostly used for scheduling, notes, internet, and office applications. It is also known as PalmTop, handheld, or pocket computer. Many models have a touchscreen instead of a keyboard and mouse.
Smartphones
With the development of mobile phone technology, phones with mobile operating systems as well as phones with Windows operating systems have appeared on the market. These devices are considered small computers because they can perform many of the tasks that computers do.
Home Theater PC
Means a computer for the home cinema system. Its structure mainly consists of PC + TV card + large LCD screen and advanced audio system. It is mostly used for watching/recording television, DVD movies, HD, DIVX, listening to music, or viewing digital images. They have specific cases. Some models have a remote control and an LCD screen illuminated on the front of the case.
Workstation Computers
From left to right, workstation, mainframe, and supercomputer.
Workstations
These are computers with a very advanced processor, optimized to perform a specific task. They use hardware components for a certain type of work or performance that are not found in PCs.
Servers
These are computers configured with powerful processors, large RAM, and large storage capacities to provide services to other computers over a network.
Enterprise Server – Mainframe
These structures, which in the past were so large that they occupied a room or a larger enclosed space, are now known as enterprise servers. They are used in many large companies for managing operations and storing data.
Supercomputers
They are used for large scientific work, nuclear energy research, motion animations, calculating fluid characteristics, and fields such as meteorology. The difference from mainframes is that supercomputers are dedicated to a single task based on processor power, whereas mainframes are multi-user structures.
