The scanner contains a CCD optical sensor, lenses that collect the light reflected onto the CCD, mirrors that direct the reflected light to the CCD, and stepper motors that move this system horizontally back and forth.
What types of Scanners are there?
There are many types of scanners available. Among them are:
- Scanners integrated into multifunction printers,
- Scanners that only have the scanning function and are generally used for scanning A4-sized documents (flatbed),
- Portable scanners, which can scan small-sized documents.
Portable Scanners
These are scanners that can quickly scan photos and small texts. They are smaller and cheaper than regular scanners and can be easily carried by hand. For this reason, they are very easy to use.
Flatbed Scanners
Flatbed scanners are similar to photocopy machines. The document to be scanned is placed on the glass surface of the scanner.
Drum Scanners
Drum scanners are highly advanced. They are used in desktop publishing and modern printing systems. These are frequently preferred for preparing images used in newspapers, magazines, and brochures.
The name of this type of scanner comes from the transparent acrylic cylinder mounted on it, which is used to transfer written documents. One of the distinctive features of drum scanners is their ability to control the size of the interval and the size of the scanned copies.
Other types of scanners:
- Film scanners (for digitizing slides and negatives)
- Multiple document scanners (ADF)
- Single-page feed scanners (Sheetfeed)
- Planetary scanners (for book scanning)
- Robotic scanners (for book scanning)
