What is a Grounding Measurement Device?
In electrical systems, there are conductors that allow current to flow and insulating resistances that provide the necessary resistance between these conductors and the ground.
A negative situation that may occur during the transport of conductors can damage the insulation and thus cause a short circuit. If this problem is to be avoided, then the insulation condition must be examined before powering the system. The values of these insulating resistances are very high, and to measure them, a grounding measurement device is used.
Grounding measurement devices are of two types:
- Digital measuring instrument
- Analog measuring instrument
Digital Measuring Instrument
The digital measuring instrument has a screen, an amplifier circuit, and batteries. The voltage and current required during the measurement process are supplied by these batteries. The digital measuring instrument can be easily carried by hand, making it both practical and easy to use. This instrument includes three different types: without a crank, digital, and with a cross coil.
With crank-type grounding measuring instruments, it is difficult to detect leaks because during their use, you need to turn the crank with one hand and perform the measurement with the other. In crankless measuring devices, this process can be done directly up to resistances of 50 kilovolts.
Digital grounding measuring instruments include batteries, an electronic amplifier, and a screen. During measurement, it is essential to set the values correctly because the device’s battery voltage increases according to that value.
The operating principle of grounding measuring devices with a cross coil is that when you connect the system you want to measure to the grounding device terminals, the current simultaneously passes through the voltage coil number two and coil number one. At this time, a magnetic flux forms in coil number one, which starts to rotate the voltage coil in the opposite direction. However, the voltage coil remains fixed and displays a value on the screen.
Analog Measuring Instrument
Grounding measurement devices include a dynamo that produces a voltage of 1000 volts. Voltage generation occurs via the magneto crank. After turning the crank, the voltage is produced. In grounding devices, the higher the soil insulation, the better the security system.
Our company purchases second-hand grounding measurement devices at their current values.
